Bird Park

Sunday, June 29, 2008

Visited The world of living colours aka Jurong Bird park. We arrived at 11am and had our home made lunch in my car again, haa..

Blessed with fine weather we were able to watch the New Birds ‘n Buddies Show which features the talking parrot: Amigo, probably the only one Amazon in the world who sings Rasa Sayang (a local folk song) and displays linguistic agility.
Sassy the Cockatoo who acts as a messenger of coupons & money notes, so volunteer 1st in order to get a free drink coupon, mind u each can/bottle drink cost $3 and $4 respectively.

Next we watch the Birds of Prey Show a very exciting performance exhibiting spectacular sight of 20 different birds of prey ~ kites, vultures, storks, eagles, hawks all congregating at the arena at the same time. These birds fly real low and we can feel the wind swishing pass our ears.

Our mini lunch - Shrimp wanton and Takoyaki rice strips.

Crowned Pigeon, posing with us, lol.

The hornbill is the only flying bird with eye lashes and they are really long.

In the Lory Loft, its actually a big bird cage!

We're at the world’s largest walk-in aviary with the highest man-made waterfall standing at over 30 metres.

An unexpected intruder, the endangered Malayan Sun Skink.

Vicky the Hornbill.

Mr. And Mrs. Horn-the Toco Toucans.

The Falconer & his eagle.

Himalayan Griffon Vulture with a wing span of 4metres!!

Johor Shop & Dine

Saturday, June 21, 2008

Visited our "neighbour" Johor, got our 1st chop on the passport therefore it can be considered as our 1st overseas trip ba, haa..
We entered via woodlands CP and went straight for our lunch at Taman Sentosa famous charcoal claypot stall. As usual had my car wash & vacuumed at the same time for merely $10rm. Ta pao 3 D13 durian for $50rm, it's smell lasted in my car for nearly 1week even though they are not opened!

Ba Kut Teh & Sesame oil Chicken, mmm...

Our main itineary of the day was to explore deeper into Jb, in search of Tebrau Jusco. After some 20 mins drive we found it, it houses a large car park and only charges $1rm per entry, lol. Soon after reaching Dear bought a "Naf Naf" pants at a 60% discount, woot. Got my hair cut & wash at Jantzen, hmm.. not bad for $35rm. Booked our Thai couple Massage, 1.5hrs for only $170rm. It's late by 20 mins but the wait is worth it, Shiok!!

Our free size massage costumes, hmm.. look more like yellow ribbon project, haa..

Dinner at Ta Ma Hua Yuan Hawker, once there we are like honey attracting many bees, haa.. With no particular preference we just settled down to have our seafood dinner. One other good things about dining there is not just the price but also peacefulness, unlike Sg the DVD or tissue touters there won't disturb u at all after the initial rejection.
Finally had my tank gas up at $3.15rm per litre then home sweet home..

Just compare My against Sg similar product..

Butter grandma prawn, Beggar chicken & bbq Sting Ray: Total cost abt $65rm!!

Prying open all the durians but only manage to finish half of it, haa..

Kelong Fishing

Sunday, June 15, 2008

First time fishing at this spot, actually it's a Fish "Pai" where they have keep nets for farming seafood like Sri Lanka crabs, juvenile groupers and even OVERSIZE grouper (a.k.a 龙胆) @ about 50Kgs!!
The Kelong owner, unlike the usual brute Hokkien old man, he plays english classical musics and even invites beach goers (pregnant woman too),canoes kids for a educational tour at $5 each. Haa..
Hmm.. Perhaps we can organize one for our Kawans and bargain for a cheaper price?! lol.

My reel handle TFOA into the sea, zzz..

Big Puffer fish, don't be fooled by it's cute look, even the skin is venomous!!

Eel catfish, note the sleek hind tail that resembles that of a Eel's tail.

Tiger Grouper

My surprise catch of the day: The Malabar Grouper!!
EOD le about to pack up but my fren ask me to try 1 more time and instant reply with this Goalkeeper, haa. Ironicaly it takes my dead bait instead of live prawn!

They will be on my meal plates soon, haa..

Freshwater Fishing

Friday, June 6, 2008

Night fishing from 7.30pm to 10.30pm. It started out quite slowly and as i starting to be skeptical about this spot my reel tension pulled and after some light fighting, a Toman was landed. As the 2 catches are not our target they were released unharm.
Our prize of the day was the Freshwater Stingray, it's the first time i know of such in Sg Freshwater, as compared to it's larger relative from the sea it's tail was shorter with longer venomous tail spines. It was known to be sold in aquarium fetching prices up to $80/-

Small Toman weighing about 400gm.

Catfish weighing about 200gm.

Catch of the day: Sting Ray !!!
